Audi R18 e-Tron Hybrid Quattro

Audi doesn’t mind pushing the envelope a little further than most people would and has proven that with the release of a new Le Mans race car. The racer is called the R18 e-Tron hybrid quattro, a four-wheel driven diesel hybrid race car that’s set to compete at the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans in France on June 16 and 17, 2012.

Working under the same principles as that of the Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid, the R18 e-Tron hybrid quattro uses kinetic energy that’s recovered whenever the car brakes, storing that energy in the flywheel accumulator as electricity before being sent back to the electric motors on the front wheels. The motors take car of the front of the vehicle, while the rear wheels get their power from the car’s 510-horsepower V6 TDI engine. The only difference between the aforementioned Porsche and the R18 e-Tron hybrid quattro is that the latter is considered a mild hybrid, using a petrol engine along with electricity.

Since the car uses a heavy hybrid system, Audi went and designed the race car’s gearbox using carbon fiber composite housing, alleviating some of the weight brought about by the complicated drivetrain.

Before it struts its wares in Le Mans, the car will be put through the paces on May 5th at the 6-hour race at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium where it will be raced by Allan McNish, Dindo Capello Tom Kristensen and Benot Trluyer, Andr Lotterer and Marcel Fssler.

Citroen C4 Aircross

We’ve given Citroen some flak in the past for their conservative design methods, but all that seems to be a thing of the past now as the French automaker is preparing to reveal the new C4 Aircross crossover at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show.

Together with its sister model, the Peugeot 4008, the C4 Aircross represents a new chapter in Citroen’s design evolution. The C4 Aircross - and the 4008, for that matter - were both based on the Mitsubishi ASX Crossover, but the new C4 gets some design transformations on its own, including a new body panel, new trims, and plenty of different color options.

While official powertrain options have yet to be announced, Citroen is offering four different engines, including a 1.6-liter petrol that produces 115 horsepower, a 2.0-liter petrol engine that develops 150 horsepower, a 1.6-liter diesel engine that comes with 110 horsepower, and a 1.8-liter diesel engine that churns out 150 horsepower.

Further details behind the Citroen C4 Aircross will be revealed at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. For now, the French automaker has provided a slice of what’s in store courtesy of an extensive photo gallery.

Magna Steyr MILA Coupic Concept

Austrian automaker, Magna Steyr, rarely makes a splash these days, but when they do, you can be sure that people are bound to notice. That shouldn’t be no more evident than in what Magna Steyr has in store for the 2012 Geneva Motor Show: They’re bringing a 3-in-1 vehicle concept called the MILA Coupic.

If the thought of a vehicle taking three guises is confusing enough, then you can be sure of the MILA Coupic’s status as a novelty.

In the simplest of terms, the MILA Coupic is a crossover coupe that comes with an innovative and retractable soft top roof with two sections that can be opened independently from each other. Both of these soft folding roofs have been fitted with a variety of transparent glass elements embedded in the textile material. The front roof system above the front seats can be opened from the front to the rear while the rear roof system above the rear seats and the loading area allows for two opening directions and provides added versatility to the vehicle’s loading area.

The concept’s two-tone paint finish - Clash Green combined with Crystal White - complements the aluminum highlights, thus providing a vehicle that looks about as unconventional as any concept we’ve seen in recent time.

Looking at the overall design of the car, the MILA Coupic offers a fresh take on how exceptional engineering can blend with state-of-the-art technology. The construction of the MILA Coupic was designed in different layers, with the lowest level paying attention to providing overall stability to the concept. The middle layer stands for safety and comfort, whereas the top level invests the vehicle with the typical sportiness and elegance of a coup. Inside, the concept has a five-seat configuration with the rear seat capable of being folded forward, thus turning the vehicle into a glorified pick-up, further enhancing the concept’s overall quirkiness.

Philip Island World Superbike Results 2011

Carlos Checa and Ducati rose like a pair of phoenixes at Philip Island, pulling off a double win and leading virtually every minute of both race one and two.

Carlos Checa came to World Superbike from MotoGP in the twilight years of his racing career (and probably in the the eyes of many pissed them away on a Honda he showed moments of untouchable speed on but mostly mediocrity). At the end of last year, The long-time headline attraction of World Superbike made the shocking and upsetting announcement that they were withdrawing factory support from the series (this was around the time they announced they'd hired Rossi for 90 zillion dollars).

None of that mattered on the opening weekend of the 2011 World Superbike Championship season. Checa simply walked away in both superbike class races. Mind you, as the announcers repeatedly mentioned, Philip Island is a historically Ducati-oriented track... but then again, in WSBK, what track hasn't been dominated by Ducatis? Checa was incredibly smooth - almost boringly - and the race for third place was some of the best I've seen in years. MotoGP continues to become more Formula 1-ish in its anti-climactic racing, but Superbike has been on the warpath for the past half-decade.

Max Biaggi had to be the second-best rider of the day, not only utilizing his Aprilia RSV4's monsterous power extremely well, but cutting through the field like a hot knife through butter after a poor start in race two. You could really see how unique and gradual his lines are compared to the rest of the field, and there were admittedly moments I were I thought he'd T-bone someone but he just cruised by like they weren't moving.

The whole time, Marco Melandari was getting the better of his Yamaha teammate Laverty and Leon Haslam was showing that last season was no fluke. Fellow BMW rider actually chased down and outpaced Haslam for a short stint, but headbanged in anger after offshooting a turn mid-race. Seeing all-of-the-above 4, even 5 wide through top gear chicanes was quite a spectacle.

The biggest surprise for me was in World Supersport. Luca Scassa isn't an old rider but seems nonetheless like he's been around forever. He's ridden a lot of bikes and been in some hellish crashes. I just didn't imagine him winning the opening supersport championship race in 2011,, but obviously I was wrong.

Dodge Charger Pursuit Pace Car

Let it be known that we love ourselves some Dodge Charger. There’s something undeniably cool about the car that belies its undeniable performance capabilities.

Recently, we found out that a special 2012 Dodge Charger Pursuit, the very same one that patrols our streets as a police cruiser, will serve as the official pace car for both the NASCAR Nationwide Series and Sprint Cup Series races in Phoenix on March 3rd and 4th, 2012. Unlike some of the other pace cars we’ve seen in the past, the Charger Pursuit will be dressed in a matte black finish with matching white accents on the body and a full police livery.

We don’t expect the Charger Pursuit Pace Car to carry the full boat of law-enforcement technology that the police cars carry, but to see one actually taking serving as a pace car for a NASCAR race is beyond cooler words.

We don’t know if the Charger Pursuit Pace Car will carry a 3.6-liter V6 engine that has 292 horsepower or the more powerful 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine that produces 370 ponies. Either way, it’s going to be a real treat to watch the Dodge sports car flex its muscles while leading the pack in Phoenix.

Jorge Lorenzo turned out to not have a driver?s license

MotoGP rider ever to win the world in 2010 was indeed very surprised by riding a bicycle in a state very slowly, indeed it is very surprising Jorge Lorenzo fans, many who think that a MotoGP world champion would have had a driver?s license.

And selection of obtaining a driver?s license after he did this test circuit in Sepang, Malaysia, 2 February 2012 ago.

?I get a car driver?s license at 18 years, and so far I feel no need of a motorcycle driver?s license, because it is not required to race. But, now I need it, so can riding a bike on the street through town,? said Lorenzo.

If in MotoGP, Lorenzo used the 1000cc motor M1, to exercise on Mount Montjuic, 24 year-old driver using Yamaha YBR 250cc motor.

Yoshimura R-77 Exhausts were developed specifically for the latest generation of sportbikes to be light while providing improved engine output and better throttle response. This is realized through countless hours testing various pipe configurations on the dyno, finalizing a design and then riding with it at the track to fully understand how the motorcycle exhaust will work. Every Yoshimura full exhaust system starts with header pipes made from high-quality stainless steel tubing that is cut from stock and then bent to shape using precision CNC-machine tools. This is done to produce an exhaust that has a perfect fit straight out of the box. There?s no need to bend brackets or move coolant hoses out of the way to fit a Yoshimura exhaust! Where Yoshimura R&D found it beneficial to power output, one or more duplex crossover pipes are utilized between the headers. This Yoshimura innovation works to boost low and mid-range power output - something that Yoshimura has been using on their US-made exhausts since the middle 1970?s.

Most noticeable about the R77 exhaust is the distinctive trapezoidal shape of the muffler which was chosen because it permits a larger volume of exhaust packing material which, Yoshimura claims, delivers better engine performance than a standard round or oval-shaped exhaust. At the front of each R77 muffler, a tapered endcap meets an outer sleeve made with your choice of stainless steel, titanium and carbon fiber. Each sleeve is then mated to the straight-baffle interior with stainless steel banding and rivets for a durable pipe that will stand up to the years of riding. Every R-77 full exhaust system comes almost fully-assembled from the factory and requires no special tools for installation.

We have R77 exhaust systems to the following makes and models:

Honda
CBR1000RR 2008-2011

Kawasaki
ZX6R 2009-2011
ZX10R 2008-2010 (2011 coming soon!)
ZX14 2006-2011

Suzuki
GSXR600 2008-2010 (2011 coming soon!)
GSXR750 2008-2010 (2011 coming soon!)
GSXR1000 2007-2011
Hayabusa 2008-2011

Yoshimura exhausts systems are not yet available on our website. Call Mike at 866.931.6644 ext 804 to order. As always, shipping anywhere in the lower 48 states is free. You can also email us, send those to FORUM at RIDERSDISCOUNT dot COM with YOSHIMURA R77 EXHAUST in the subject line along with the model and year of the motorcycle you have and the style of muffler you want: carbon fiber, stainless steel or titanium sleeve ? and we?ll get back to you right away.

Unlike some exhaust manufacturers who have resorted to machines to weld their exhausts, Yoshimura believes human hands are still best suited to the task.

Whenever the OEM exhaust includes a gas sensor, Yoshimura provides an appropriately sized sensor bung. Where required, brackets are welded onto the stainless steel pipe to facilitate a solid, workmanlike exhaust mounting scheme.

To keep proper tuned length and to make fitting the exhaust easier, Yoshimura uses small stop plates wherever pipe joints are located. They are visible here just under each spring. Exhausts come from the factory almost fully assembled, taking the guesswork out of properly aligning the exhaust to install it on your motorcycle.

All Yoshimura full systems are designed and constructed in the USA.

Ferrari F12berlinetta

Ferrari has just dropped the first official details on the replacement 599. Up until now, the vehicle has been dubbed the F620 GT, but its official name is the F12berlinetta. The best part is that it is the most powerful high-performance Ferrari road car ever launched.

The new F12berlinetta was designed by the Ferrari Styling Center in cooperation with Pininfarina. It is said to be "a perfect balance of uncompromising aerodynamics with harmonious proportions interpreting the typical elements of Ferrari?s front-engined V12 cars in an original and innovative way."

The F12berlinetta is powered by a V12 engine with an impressive output of 740 HP - an increase of 120 HP over the previous 599 GTB Fiorano. This increase in power also comes with a decrease of fuel consumption, specifically a 30% reduction. With a total weight of just 3362 lbs, the F12berlinetta will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.1 seconds, while top speed goes up to over 211 mph. Ferrari has also announced that the new model lapped the Fiorano circuit in 1:23, faster than any other Ferrari road car.

Hit the jump to read more about the new Ferrari F12berlinetta.

Kawasakis Still Suck

Not that I particularly dislike them on the street or anything, but come on. Kawasaki supposedly poured its heart and soul and lots of money into becoming a serious force in World Superbike.

They withdrew from MotoGP (after consistently running at the back of the pack). At the beginning of every World Superbike race for the past several years you could see a nearly comedic sea of neon green lagging 5 seconds behind everyone before the first corner. I can see why they wanted to just focus on this and get it right.

Yet what did was see last weekend at Philip Island? This was the all-new Ninja that's supposed to be tickling the BMW S1000RR's horsepower levels and has been relabelled "ZX" explicitly - a race bike - , while the new "Ninja 1000" assumes the former's former dual street/race role. This is a team that's been in Superbike since the early days in some shape or form.

Yet what did we see? A sea of neon green at the back of the pack. What is the deal?

Porsche 911 CLR 9 S by Lumma

There’s no doubt in anyone’s mind that the 2012 Porsche 911 is a tuning magnet all its own. That’s why when the car was first introduced late last year, tuners from all corners of the world began racing to build the first program for the new 911.

At the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, we’re going to see a couple tuning firms present their first program for the 911, one of them being Lumma Design.

Their very first program for the new Porsche 911 is called the Lumma CLR 9 S. Made up of an attractive aerodynamic package that includes exterior and interior modifications, the CLR 9 S represents the latest chapter in Lumma Design’s growing fascination with Porsche vehicles. As part of the exterior aero package, Lumma added its own advanced aerodynamic body kit CLR, consisting of a front spoiler lip that emphasizes the sportiness of the new integrated Cupspoilerschwert "Elfers." The program also has a new CLR frame front grille design, as well as refined headlights, an expansive rear fender, a three-piece spoiler lip that ensures more downforce on the rear axle, and a new set of 20" Technikrad LUMMA sport wheels Edition "GS / R" that can be color customized upon request.

As far as the interior goes, Lumma Design dressed up the 911 with a bevy of high-quality materials, traditional craft saddlery, and the finest workmanship you’ll ever see in a German sports car, highlighted by a full red leather interior complemented by black Alcantara. The seats also have embossed carbon leather while the rest of the interior parts, including the dashboard, steering wheel, headliner, door panels, and the center console, all have generous headings of Alcantara. Rounding out the interior modifications are aluminum door sills, floor mats with leather welt suede, and embossed carbon leather interior trim.
